Do's and Don'ts for Taxi and Private Hire Drivers.

Dear Drivers,

If something goes wrong and you call into the office, please remember to communicate with the telephone operators in a professional and respectful manner, just as you expect to be treated. Issues may not be resolved immediately over the phone, and if the operator cannot provide a satisfactory response, you can raise your concerns by emailing the office via the Cordic Driver app. Operators have limited access to information and are unable to assist with matters such as statements, school runs, or completed bookings. They are here to support you with live bookings only. Please note that all calls are recorded, and any unprofessional behavior or abuse will not be tolerated. Thank you for your cooperation.

Ensure the Vehicle is Safe and Clean

Regularly check for maintenance issues and keep the interior clean for passengers’ comfort.

Ensure your driver ID badge is visible at all times.

Treat all passengers with respect, greet them courteously, and provide assistance when necessary.

Adhere to speed limits, avoid reckless driving, and keep distractions to a minimum.
Verify booking details (name, destination) to ensure you have the correct passenger.
Assist passengers with heavy bags or shopping when needed.
Keep conversations friendly but respectful, and allow passengers to set the tone of interaction.
Be aware of safeguarding responsibilities, especially with children, elderly, or vulnerable passengers.
Use GPS or local knowledge to take efficient routes, considering traffic conditions.
Notify relevant authorities if you encounter any situation that seems dangerous or illegal.

Don'ts

Don't Ask Personal Questions
Avoid overly personal topics, which might make passengers uncomfortable.
Unless there is a valid safety concern, do not refuse passengers based on journey length.
Stick to the metered fare or agreed price and provide a receipt if requested.
Avoid using your phone without hands-free equipment.
Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Keep volume low or off if passengers prefer quiet, and avoid any music that might offend.
If a conflict arises, keep calm, avoid escalating the situation, and contact authorities if necessary.
Smoking in the vehicle is illegal and creates an uncomfortable environment.
Never refuse a passenger based on race, disability, gender, or any other characteristic.
If a passenger appears in distress or is vulnerable, take appropriate steps, such as contacting authorities or ensuring they are safely dropped off.

Customer Interaction and Safeguarding Responsibilities

Taxi and private hire drivers must always respect the privacy and comfort of their passengers. Personal questions that could make passengers feel uncomfortable should be avoided, and drivers should remain mindful of their role in safeguarding. This means ensuring that all passengers, especially children and vulnerable individuals, feel safe and secure during their journey.
